ImplantImplants are the closest alternative to a natural tooth. A dental implant is used to replace the root portion of a missing tooth.  A false tooth is then attached to the implant.  The implant may be a single tooth or provide support for a bridge or denture.

Implants are made from a bio-compatible metal called titanium.  The implant, which looks like a screw or cylinder, is surgically placed into the jaw bone under the gum and eventually, the bone will grow around it and hold it firmly in place.

There are 3 main stages to placing an implant: first the implant is placed in the bone, secondly, if required, an extension called an abutment is placed onto the implant and thirdly, a crown is placed onto the abutment.

To determine whether an implant is suitable for you, Dr Thai will refer for you to a Periodontist, a specialist in periodontal (gum and bone) treatment.  The Periodontist will assess your situation using xrays and scans.  If you are a suitable candidate, the specialist will perform the implant treatment.
